He was the son of Claude Burke and Flora Nix Burke. The husband of Earlene Rudd Burke, his wife of over 50 years, they were high school sweethearts at Williams HS, Burlington, North Carolina. Earlene died in 2010. Raymond is survived by one daughter, Angela Burke Durrett, and son-in-law, Mark E. Durrett, both of Marietta; grandsons, Samuel G. Durrett (Emily) and Edward "Ned" G. Durrett (Emilee); and five grandchildren, Piper, Hollis, Willow, Vance and Early. He was predeceased by a grandson, Stephen Burke Rice. The family wishes to acknowledge the faithful love, care and support of Judy Keaton of North Myrtle Beach, Raymond's longtime special friend. Raymond was the baby of 12 children and was predeceased by the other 11. After employment at Glen Raven Mills and Western Electric, Raymond worked as a member of the Burlington Fire Department, rising to the position of operations chief and retiring in 1988. He enjoyed all sports, playing and watching, and enjoyed the restaurants of North Carolina and South Carolina in his retirement. For the last decade and a half, he resided with his daughter Angie and son-in-law, Mark, who cared for him through his final days. Raymond was easygoing and always cheerful and helpful to others.
