View Tribute Book George Thomas “Tommy” Self, Jr., 67, husband of Beth Batey Self, died Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the MUSC Medical Center in Charleston, SC. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late George Thomas Self and Helen Wragg McLaurin Self. Tommy was the owner and operator of Gamecock Chemical Company. He was a member of Church of the Holy Comforter Anglican. He was a graduate of Wilson Hall, Wofford College, and served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 43 years; two daughters, Batey Self Rourk (Chris) and Anna McLaurin Dolan (Ryan); three grandchildren, George, Grace and Mac; his brother, Michael W. Self (Denise). Tommy had a life full of adventure. He flew helicopters in the National Guard and enjoyed scuba-diving, snow skiing, and golfing. However, his greatest treasure was his family. He was a devoted husband and beloved father to his girls. He dedicated his life to serving others and bringing joy to those who knew him. Memorial Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Church of the Holy Comfort Anglican with Rev. John Sosnowski officiating. The family will receive friends in the church Parish Hall following the memorial service.
