| HIST | Melba C. Burress BISHOPVILLE -- Melba Cumalander Burress went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at her home. Melba was born in Bishopville on Nov. 8, 1953. She was a daughter of the late John Wesley Cumalander and the late Marion Kennington Cumalander. She was a 1971 graduate of Bishopville High School and was employed with R. Travis Windham Insurance Agency as an agent at the time of her illness. Melba was a people person, she loved people and people loved her. She never met a stranger. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bishopville for over 40 years and taught Sunday school for 26 years. She is survived by a loving husband of 39 years, Clifton M. Burress; a son, Wesley Vernon Burress; a daughter, Misty Dawn Burress; a sister, Brenda Cumalander Fulmer and husband, William "Bill," of Little Mountain; a brother, George Melvin Cumalander and wife, Carolyn, of Bishopville; a niece, Lisa Fulmer Miller and son, Jacob Patterson, both of Little Mountain; and a nephew, William Leonard "Len" Fulmer Jr. of Texas and daughter, Heather Leigh Fulmer of Alabama. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Bishopville, with the Rev. Lin Kirkman, the Rev. Tom Rutan and the Rev. Sam Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church fellowship hall and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Bishopville, P.O. Box 144, Bishopville, SC 29010 or to Hospice Care of Tri-County, 2560 Tahoe Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
