Lowder Murray Lee Gates Lowder, 90, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at the KershawHealth Medical Center at Camden. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Dorsey Robert Lee Sr. and Mamie Vivian Graham Gates. Disabled throughout his life, he was raised by Nettie Lowder and, upon her death, his late brother, Oscar Lowder, became his caregiver. Murray's joy in life was his God-given talent of music. He played several instruments and enjoyed entertaining others. Surviving is his brother-in-law, Joe Sharpe of Columbia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dorsey R.L. Gates Jr.; and two sisters, Frances Gates and Clara Gates. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Dan Rowton officiating. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1795, Sumter, SC 29151. Online condolences may be sent to www.sumterfunerals.com.
