Frankie was born in Savannah GA to Mary H. Bailey and the late Frank George Toomer Sr. Frankie spent the vast majority of his childhood in Rome GA with his mother and stepfather Norwood Bailey. Frankie graduated from Coosa High School in 1966. After graduation, Frankie joined the United States Navy where he served for four years. Upon joining the military Frankie married his high school sweetheart Linda Joyce Hyatt on June 17, 1967. The couple's first son, Jeffrey Earle Toomer was born on Jan 26, 1968, and shortly thereafter a second son, William Kemp Toomer joined the family on November 14, 1969. Frankie and his family spent the next 5 years in Rome GA where Frankie worked in construction, however, he could not escape his saltwater heritage. Frankie moved his family to the Lowcountry to pursue a life on the water like The Toomer family. Frankie bought his first Shrimp Trawler named "The Bomb Camino" in the early 1970's. After the Bomb Camino, he owned "The Quick Step", "The Ceryle", and then "The Yellow Jacket". Frankie's family of four was also blessed with a third son Lamar Kurt "Skippy" Toomer on May 13, 1980. Frankie spent the next 35 years working the waters of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina as a shrimper. The Yellow Jacket still resides at Hudson's Seafood. Frankie's 3 sons have followed in their father's footsteps and are local shrimpers as well. Frankie is survived by his Wife Linda Hyatt Toomer, son Jeffrey Earle Toomer and wife Allyson Toomer, son William Kemp Toomer and wife Christina Toomer, son Lamar Kurt "Skippy" Toomer and wife Catina Toomer, and grandchildren, Reilly Morgan Toomer, Jeffrey Logan Toomer, Ansleigh Blaine Abbott Toomer, Grady Camden Toomer, Luke Kolton Toomer, and Tristan Kemp Abbott Toomer. Frankie is also survived by his mother Mary Alma Bailey, stepfather Norwood Bailey, and siblings Joseph Bailey, Brantley Toomer, Larry Toomer, Debbie Hubbard, Kenneth Toomer, Dora Fletcher and Penny Orrel as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Frankie is predeceased by his father Frank George Toomer SR, sister Suzanne Woods and sister Barbara Sfida. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton with burial in the Lowcountry Memorial Gardens.
