he joined the Confederate Army, Company K, 23rd S.C. Regiment with his brothers- Hanford Augustus (Gus), John, Hubbard and Lemuel Brothers Hubbard, Lemuel and Edward were captured during the assault on Fort Stedman and sent to Point Lookout. The 25,000 prisoners at Point Lookout were paroled and released a few at a time, and they made their way home in small groups of two or three. Transportation was provided for the parolees as far as conditions permitted. Most of the Sumter County men were shipped to Charleston, (South Carolina), taking a three-day trip by steamer. [2] |
